One of my “waiting stories” is from a few years back. Our church was wanting to acquire a building and property that was in foreclosure and was adjacent to our property. The bank wanted $70,000 and one of our members offered them $50,000. They basically laughed at the offer. So we said, “Fine. We will do without” and waited for God to lead. 2 years later the bank approached us about buying it and sold it to us for $30,000.” It is now our Fellowship Hall, remodeled and completely paid for. Praise God for His waiting periods.

Little has changed, except for pockets of ‘moves’ among those who are throwing off the restraints of man-religion (as opposed to pure religion and undefiled a-la James) and throwing their hat in the ring with Jesus.

Of course, as you observed, we gotta make sure it’s not a Texas-sized ten-gallon hat!

There are many references in scripture which point out the folly of trusting in empty religious “works”… especially where unjust living is preferred over love.

Of course, trying really hard to love others the way that we would want to be loved can *also* become an exercise in vanity as well…
